‘We say goodbye, but just for now...’
It is with a profound sense of sadness that we heard that after a short illness and hospitalisation, Mr John Gregory had passed away on 23 April 2018.
Mr. Gregory was the Math teacher at Inkamana for 28 years, yet his old students remember him best for being the choir master. At the Almuni Gala Dinner in May stories and memories were abundant about his famous sayings and being in the choir under his baton.
One 1999 matriculant remembers that he reminded them often, among the blind the one eyed is king - which served to keep them humble. For the more recent alumni the insistent sound of his voice keeping the tug-of-war under control, rings in their ears: Take the strain - take the strain. With the starting pistol in his hand, he was a familiar figure on Athletics Day every year.
It was absolutely a miracle that the students could understand his soft but still pronounced Welsh accent when they started Maths with him in Gr 10. He often told his colleages that they all will understand him in heaven, because Welsh is the language of angels.
